And now our list of college campus safety and security tips.

  • Be aware of your surroundings. This means paying attention to who is around you and what is going on in your environment. If you see something that doesn’t seem right, trust your gut and report it to campus security.
  • Walk with friends or in well-lit areas. If you have to walk alone, try to stay on well-traveled paths. If you feel unsafe, call campus security as most campuses have blue light phones throughout campus or many have apps on your phone now to alert campus police. Or call a friend for a ride.
  • Lock your doors and windows. This is especially important when you’re asleep or not in your dorm room or apartment. It’s tempting to leave your door open as you visit with friends down the hall, but this leaves your belongings open to an easy and quick theft. Be sure to coordinate with your roommate to ensure they do the same and are aware of standard college campus safety tips.
  • Don’t leave valuables in plain sight. If you have to leave something in your car or dorm room, make sure it’s out of sight. A small safe is a great idea for your room, as well.
  • Be careful about what you share online. Don’t post your personal information or your whereabouts on social media.

We do hope this article on college campus safety and security has helped you choose items to make your college experience a little more safe and secure. If you are looking for a more extensive list of dorm room items consider visiting our Dorm Room Essentials post.
